How to Unroot, S-ON, Remove Revolutionary and ClockworkMod Recovery – HTC Desire S

If you rooted stock HTC Desire S before the OTA Update, (HBOOT 0.98.0000 and 0.98.0002) and used Revolutionary method. You will end up having S-OFF, Rooted + HBOOT 6.98.1002. Follow method 1. If you applied OTA Update, now HBOOT 2.00.0002 and then using HTCDev Unlocking method. You will end up having S-ON, Rooted + HBOOT 2.00.002. Follow method 2.

1. Revolutionary Method

FastBoot, HTC Sync and USB Debugging
Stock-Bootloader

  • If you have HTC Sync installed, Please remove it. It may cause a few issues.
  • Install these FastBoot Drivers as given on RootWiki.
  • Disable FastBoot on Phone. Click on Settings > Power > FastBoot
  • Enable USB Debugging on your Android Phone. Click on Settings > Applications > Development > Turn USB Debugging ON.

Flash / Downgrade to older HBOOT 0.98.2000 (PG8810000)

  • You need PG88IMG.zip before proceeding ahead. Rename it to exactly PG88IMG.zip
  • Put the .zip file on your SD Card and Reboot the phone in BootLoader >> Recovery.
  • It will automatically detect the file and flash HBOOT
  • You will have now have HBOOT 0.98.2000

Flash RUU

  • Download this RUU for ASIA/India region.
  • Connect phone to PC in USB debugging mode and run RUU. Follow the steps.
  • RUU wont execute if software version is newer than 1.47.720.1. Check steps below to change software version.

Thats it. You should now have Fresh Stock ROM installed device.

2. HTCDev Boot Unlocker Method

Modify software version

  • You will need to download misc_version. Unzip the file.
  • Run the following lines in cmd prompt.
adb push C:downsagamisc_version /data/local/tmp
adb shell chmod 777 /data/local/tmp/misc_version
adb shell
$ su
# cd /data/local/tmp
# ./misc_version -s 1.27.405.6
# exit
$ exit
adb reboot-bootloader
  • Your phone will now have different version (not visible in settings)

Locking Bootloader

  • Reboot your phone into Reboot the phone in BootLoader >> Fastboot
  • Open command prompt and type the following.
fastboot devices

This is to ensure that the device is detected.

fastboot oem lock

This will re-lock the phone. Boot into bootloader mode again. You’ll see *RELOCKED* written above. Might also have *Security Warning*. You can ignore that.

Flash RUU

  • You now need an older RUU. Download this RUU for ASIA/India region.
  • Connect phone to PC in USB debugging mode and run RUU. Follow the steps.
  • RUU wont execute if software version is newer than 1.47.720.1. Ours should be 1.27.405.6

You should now have same old stock ROM HBOOT-0.98.0000/0.98.0002/0.98.2000 depending on region.
